ABOUT KACIP FATIMAH


Kacip Fatimah which refers to “Fatimah’s betel scissors” is the female version of Tongkat Ali which is also well known for its aphrodisiac properties. Another folk name for it is “Selusuh Fatimah” which translates to “Fatimah’s childbirth medicine”. The scientific name of Kacip Fatimah is Labisia Pumila.
Kacip Fatimah is a flowering plant of the Myrsinaceae family. It is a small woody and leafy plant that can be found widely in the shade of forest floors. They can be found in Indochina, Thailand and throughout Malaysia. It grows wildly in the Malaysian rainforest about 80-100m above sea level. There are 3 different varieties of Labisia Pumila identified which are Labisia pimila var.alata, var.pumila and var.lanceolate.
Kacip Fatimah is rich in phytoestrogens and can regulate the physiology of women effectively. On the other hand, it is well known for its aphrodisiac affect on women, increasing a women’s libido. Nevertheless it has other medicinal uses to strengthen, rejuvenate and improve one’s health as well as medical ability to treat certain illnesses.


PROCESSING OF KACIP FATIMAH

Kacip Fatimah are collected from the forest.
The leaves, stem and roots are washed and dried.
The dried leaves, stem and roots are packed in plastic bags and vacuum sealed for freshness. It is then ready for consumption.

TRADITIONAL & MODERN CONSUMPTION

There are a few methods to consume Kacip Fatimah:
a) Leaves / stem / roots
1) Wash the leaves, stem or roots with water to remove the residues.
2) Soak 2g of any of the plant’s part or its combination into the water.
3) Boil and cook stem and roots for 20 minutes before putting in leaves for another 10 minutes.
4) Remove, filter and drink the juice portion like tea consumption.
(The juice (tea) may be blended with honey or rock sugar to balance off the bitter taste of Kacip Fatimah.)
b) Tea bag
1) Place a tea bag into a cup of hot water.
2) Let the bag to sit in the cup for 20 minutes and it is ready to be served.
c) Capsules
Swallow the capsule with water.
(Note : The standard dosage is usually 2g each intake.)


SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. Do not consume with beer or any form of alcohol. 
2. Pregnant, nursing women and individuals below 16 should not consume. 
3. Women in menstruating period are also not advised to consume as the plant contain phytoestrogen. 
4. Individuals with health conditions and are under medications are advised to consult with their physician before consuming Kacip Fatimah.


SIDE-EFFECTS

1. The standard dosage is considered to be maximum of 50g of leaves, stems or roots in a day. Users should monitor themselves and reduce their dose if these side effects occur. If taken in high dosage in a short period of interval, Kacip Fatimah can be poisonous and hazardous as it can cause lesions in the kidney and liver. 
2. This can then lead to liver damage as toxins accumulate faster than the liver can process them. 
3. Accumulate of the toxins in the body will lead to harmful metabolic activity.


STORAGE REQUIREMENTS

Keep in cool and dry place protected from direct sunlight. Avoid reach of children.
